Description

Band sampler, canvas, embroidered with polychrome silks and wool in cross and eyelet hole stitch. The sampler comprises 11 horizontal bands of alphabets, numerals, initials, a flowering plant, birds, peacocks, hearts, a tree, a dog, a rabbit, a bush, a woman, fruit baskets, fruit trees, a crow, a man with a stick, a repeat border pattern and the inscription 'Mary Mather aged 13, 1801'.
