Description

Linen band sampler embroidered with polychrome silks in satin, double running, four-sided, chevron, and eyelet stitch. All the edges are hemmed and trimmed with a fringe of red silk braid or ribbon and there are silk tassels in each corner. The central panel contains a coat of arms bordered by the inscription 'DONA MARIA DEL CARMENDELOS SANTOS Y DIVISIA AD MDCCLXXXVII', which in turn is framed by examples of repeat border patterns with stylized floral sprays worked in each corner.
