Production: Caney, Mary
Linen band sampler embroidered with linen in dot, back and double hem stitch; some embroidery in faded yellow silk and a minute quantity of black and red silk in back and filling stitch. All the edges are hemmed and there are picots along the top. Most of the sampler is taken up with horizontal bands of geometric repeats which appear to be composed of single isolated dots. The bottom band depicts a pastoral scene and carries the inscription 'Mary Caney 1710'.
