There is a narrow repeating geometric border pattern which goes all around the sampler with four similar patterns worked in horizontal bands between five bands of cut-work. Each of the three wide and two narrow bands of cut-work is composed of detached squares or rounds filled with geometric and floral motifs, crowns, hearts and brief inscriptions in holliepoint or needle pointlace filling stitches.
