Band sampler, linen, embroidered with polychrome silks and metal thread in cross, eyelet hole and satin stitch. The sampler comprises 11 horizontal bands which include alphabets, crows, coronets, hearts, repeat border patterns, trees, dogs, a church, a woman and man, a black boy, the name Rebekah Bland', the date '1740', and the inscription 'Tis happiness To Be Both Good & Great/In Riches No ASsurance is/And Pleasure Yields Uncertain Bliss/But Wise Are They Who Careful Be/To Gain a Good Eternity/ for Tho Our Days Uncertain are/The Work Must Be Completed here'.
