Band sampler, linen, embroidered with polychrome silks in cross, rococo and satin stitch. The sampler is divided into nine horizontal bands. Bands 1 to 8 contain the name 'Ann Reader', date '1753' and the inscription 'ANN READER HER SAMPLER/WROUGHT IN THE NINTH YEAR/OF HER AGE IN THE/YEAR OF OUR LORD 1753/lORD GIVE ME WISDOM/TO DERECT MY WAYS I BEG/NOT RICHES NOR YET LE/ 9th OF DAYS 12345678'. The eight band comprises a crown and flower border design. Clouds, strawberries, a parrot and a flower sprig are placed along the bands.
