Description

Pictorial sampler, wool, embroidered with polychrome silks in cross, chain and satin stitch. There is a selvedge on both sides and the top and bottom are turned under and stitched. A stylized carnation border surrounds the main body of the sampler and encloses a female figure in contemporary costume; her head and upper body are of printed card partially decorated with embroidery and stitched to the ground. She is surrounded by detached, symmetrically arranged motifs including buckets of fruits, dogs, peacocks, squirrels, swans and flower vases.
