Description

Linen whitework sampler embroidered with linen thread with a minute quantity of red silk, in satin, chain, buttonhole, double running stitch and French knots. Three of the edges are hemmed and there is a selvedge at the bottom. The sampler is worked in half bands of repeat patterns, both geometric and stylized pictorial. The bottom right band contains the inscription 'ANNO 1774' and the initials 'IC' surmounted by a heart and a coronet.
