Description

Linen sampler embroidered with polychrome silks in cross-stitch. All the edges are hemmed. The design of the sampler is a combination of stylized geometric motifs and a large naturalistic cockerel worked on the right-hand side of the piece. Textural interest is achieved by the judicious mixing of cross-stitch over single and double threads. The central lozenge shape contains the initials 'P.C.O.' (horizontally) and 'J.C.G' (vertically).
