Description

Band sampler, linen, embroidered with polychrome silks in cross, darning, eyelet hole, faggot, hem, Holbein, running, satin and drawn fabric stitches. The sampler is divided into 23 horizontal bands which include repeat border patterns of various widths, bands with detached motifs and a wide band filled with triangles containing all-over patterns in drawn fabric and satin stitches.

History note: Purchased in Seville, 1904, by Helen Freeman and sold to the donor for £2.10 in 1906
