Découpé folding fan; double vellum leaf, pierced and painted. Sticks of pierced and gilt ivory; guards of undecorated ivory (17+2). Rivet of brass; washer of mother of pearl (probably of later date). Front: There are three theatrical cartouches, the central of which shows a man kneeling in front of a woman who is sitting on a throne; he is kissing her hand. The background is of green foliage with two birds and flowers. The flanking cartouches are decorated in a similar way. On the left and right, there is a panel with red scalloped sides, a green ground decorated with leaves and a red arch enclosing an acrobat, wearing a skirt, balancing on a wheel. The top edging is of a leather ribbon, left and lower edging have a green painted line. The back is undecorated. Sticks: all sticks are decorated in the same way: a pierced hole bordered by gold stripes, a crutch-shaped hole, and oval with symmetrical leaf ornaments and a spray of leaves on the top decorated with gold scrolls. The reverse is decorated in the same way.
