Description

Double paper leaf, painted in water-colours ? bodycolour and appliqued with coloured silk and painted ivory. Gold binding on upper edge. Sticks of pierced and carved ivory stained red and gilt. Guards of carved ivory, stained red and gilt. (14+2) Rivet set with clear pastes.
Front: Within borders of fish, bats and symbols, forty men, women and children are arranged in groups inside and outside buildings. They have faces of applied painted ivory and clothes of silk.
Reverse: Within borders of fish, bats, flowers and symbols, is an exotic pheasant and another bird, standing amid flowers and foliage.
Sticks: Genre scenes picked out in gold with pierced striations in the background.
Guards: Genre scenes picked out in gold.
