Wide-ended folding fan, decorated, obverse: with flowering? night-scented stock within a bamboo enclosure; reverse with a cuckoo (hototogisu) flying past the crescent moon. Guards: with modified cat's eye pattern (nekome). Guards: bamboo, lacquered and pierced. Sticks: bamboo. Face: heavy paper, painted in polychrome opaque watercolours on a ground of blue (?) lacquer, gold wash and sprinkled gold.
