Willows on the bank of a brook
Draughtsman: Lewis, John Frederick (Attributed to)
History note: A. Chariatte (Lugt 88a), 1923; Brangwyn, Frank
Height: 226 mm
Width: 240 mm
Method of acquisition: Given (1943) by Brangwyn, Frank
Production date: AD 1834
This drawing may be by the same hand as no. 3272, which A. Oppé (1943) believed to be by J.F. Lewis. J.M.H. Lewis rejects this attribution since he cannot read the initials as 'J.F.L.', even if it is assumed to be a hurried scribble by his hand, also the trees on the right of the drawing do not seem to him typical of J.F. Lewis. Furthermore, the artist was in Spain for much of 1834, although he was in England by the summer of that year (letter in artist's folder).
