Verso study for 'Ferdinand and Ariel', 1849 (repr. Gese and Ironside, pl. 62). Ferdinand whose head is cut at edge of paper and imps who are in a slightly different pose. See J.G. Millais, I, p. 84, for another graphite study for this painting.
