Acquisition and important dates

Method of acquisition: Given (1928) by Whitley, Leonard

Dating

Production date: circa AD 1516

Note

Right half. Not reproduced in the illustrated Bartsch: The background space where the dress and arm of the second Bacchant had been in the original has been altered. Bartsch states that because this print closely resembles the work of Marcantonio it is possible that this 'copy' was in fact the original, and that Agostino's print was copied from this. However Bartsch had not seen this half of the print, where Agostino's monogram and the date, 1516, are repeated.
