Description

Printed both sides of sheet. Recto with the cross placed obliquely at right, the Virgin and St John on either side and the Three Maries kneeling at left; Verso, the elevation with three men lifting the cross, copied in reverse after Hans Baldung (Hollstein 214). The woodcuts were first used for the 'Evangelienbuch' with decorative borders printed by Thomas Anshelm in Haguenau, but later reprinted without borders as illustrations to 'Doctrina, Vita et Passio Iesu Christi', Frankfurt: Egenolph, 1537.
