Description

Greyish green jade square box for seal ink, with incised decoration. The sides curve inwards to the base, which is smaller than the top. There are narrow bands of key pattern round the top of the lower part and the sides of the cover. The top of which is decorated with waves, a monster's head, clouds, and in the top right corner, an inscription.

History note: Major General Sir Neill Malcolm purchased the box for £1 in the Peking Jade Market, in 1896
