Crucifixion with the Virgin and St. John
Plaque in morse or walrus ivory. The arms of the cross extend to the edge of the rectangular plaque and are of equal width. The figure of Christ has a halo and long hair. His feet rest on a suppedaneum, and the hand of God with first two fingers extended appears in relief above the head of Christ, whilst the half-length figures of the Virgin and St John are expressive of grief. The half-length angels, without wings, fly horizontally above the arms of the cross, expressing tender concern. There are small circular holes in the two top corners and at top centre, and in the viewer's right corner. The one at top left may have been been made after the corner was damaged
