Silver and enamel; set with fourteen translucent enamelled plaques
Silver and enamel; each arm of the silver crucifix terminates in the shape of a fleur-de-lis and is set on the front and back with translucent enamelled quatrefoil-shaped plaques. At the centre is a square plaque. Around the plaques and edge of the crucifix is a punched border of silver beads and an applied rope border. The flat silver surfaces are engraved with stylised leaves and gothic tracery. Near the base is a large compressed circular knop with applied openwork borders of fleurs de lis and gothic tracery and four large lozenge-shaped lobes with applied enamelled plaques. Beneath, on the hexagonal stem, are applied borders of Gothic tracery. The plaques on the front of crucifix represent, in the centre, Christ in Majesty flanked by the Virgin Mary and St. John, with a pelican in her piety above, and Adam (or Lazarus) rising from his tomb below. On the back the plaques represent, in the centre, St. George and the Dragon surrounded by the four Evangelists. The four lozenge-shaped enamelled plaques on the lobes represent God the Father, or Christ, and St. James the Great (patron saint of Spain) and two unidentified saints. The stand (A) is of wood painted red with a gold border and feet. It is octagonal with a knop above a low trumpet-shaped foot, and stands on six carved recumbant lion-shaped feet.
