Description

Square table clock with movement with hour striking and alarm and of 30 hour duration.

Dial: Horizontal gilt dial 5 13/16 inches square, with raised roman hour numerals I - XII and within them engraved arabic hour numerals 13 - 24. Engraved quarter hour divisions between the two sets of numerals and raised dots for the half hours. The spandrels and the space within the chapter ring filled with unusually rich decoration of symmetrical foliage and strapwork. Arrow-shaped gilt brass hand with a large boss engraved with arabic numerals 1-12 for alarm setting. Gilt brass alarm hand with a large boss engraved with a shield.

Movement: Movement with hour striking and alarm and of 30 hour duration, with brass plates, simple baluster pillars and brass wheels. The going train with an 8-turn gut fusee, replaced dumbbell balance and replaced engraved cock; these replacements follow the earlier provision of a balance spring and its subsequent removal. The striking train with a going barrel, a numbered count wheel and warning action; the bell being mounted between the plates. The alarm train consisting of a going barrel with contrate teeth driving a crown wheel with verge operated hammer. The bottom plate engraved ‘BRYSSEL' within a frame and ‘G' within a shield.

Case: Of gilt brass 6 inches square x 2 7/8 inches high with very flat bun feet. The movement, which is withdrawn from the top, is secured by latches within the base. The base plate is also secured by latches and has three winding holes marked as follows:-

L (L'heure?) - Gong
S (Sonnerie) - Striking
R (Reveil) - Alarm
