Description

As the Royal Army in other parts of the Empire were now receiving the Long Service & Good Conduct Medal, the East India Company determined in 1848 to issue its own to its European troops, under similar conditions to the Royal Army award, that is, 21 years' service in the Infantry or 24 in the Cavalry without court martial or with particularly distinguished conduct. It was issued until 1873.
This example was awarded to Corporal George Cade of the 20th Hussars. Lester Watson acquired his medal at some point before 1928.
