Note
This design was the work of Jesse Austin and was issued in 1859-60, see Williams-Wood, Cyril, Staffordshire Pot Lids and Their Potters, London, 1972, pl. 57C. This lid is probably later as it has a black key. The Shepherdess lid was supplied to E. Rimmel who made Bear's grease and cherry toothpaste.
