Examined by Sydney Kitson, 2 September 1935, who pronounced unhesitatingly it not to be by Cotman, except perhaps fo a few isolated sketches.

Inscription present: The above date is underlined in ink. Sheet is blind stamped on the left with the Museum crest and on right with 'FITZWILLIAM MUSEUM, / CAMBRIDGE.'

  • Text: 2 September, 1935. / Mr. Sydney D. Kitson examined this sketch / -book, & unhesitatingly pronounced it not to be / Cotman's work, save in two instances. On / p. 28 he considers all the drawings to be by / Cotman's own hand, & on p. 35 the little group / of two figures in the top left-hand corner, in / both instances no doubt sketches done in / instructing a pupil.
