Description

Ridge tile. Red earthenware with mottled greenish-yellow glaze over a white slip. Of inverted V-shaped section, with at one end a finial in the form of a globe, with a crown on the top and round the middle two cherubs, a griffin and a fourth ornament now missing. There is a hole in the outer side of the globe where the ornament is missing (if there was one there originally).

History note: The Manor House, Ilfracombe, built 1561, now demolished; purchased privately from Pilton, nr. Barnstaple, 1924
