Miss Sophia Beanland, headmistress of Brisbane Girls' Grammar School from 1882-1889, in 1915 established from retirement a silver medal, to be awarded annually for 'excellence of design and workmanship in home needlework' (quoted from the School website). The medal, which appears to bear the bust of her mother, was designed by Allan Wyon and this copy, in bronze, appears to have been one of his specimens; the Museum also has a similar piece in white metal.
