Description

The Incorporated Sales Managers' Association began its existence in 1911 as The Sales Managers' Association. (It is at the time of writing The Chartered Institute of Marketing.) Its name was changed in 1921 by which time its membership numbered some 500; by 1928 it was holding examinations for a Certificate. In 1934 this examination system was revised to comprise both intermediate and final exams, and thus the first Finals were held in 1935. The most successful student in these examinations was awarded the Pickup Medal by Harry Pickup himself, who had been Chairman of the Association from 1931 to 1933. The medal was designed by Allan Wyon, and this piece is a workshop specimen of his in bronze.
