Description

John Millar Thomson was a vigorous and well-liked chemist working in the field of crystallisation, and he ended his career as professor of Chemistry at King's College London. On his retirement in 1914, when he became Emeritus Professor, this medal was instituted in his honour for the student in each year who achieved the highest marks in the final year of the Special Honours course in Chemistry. It is still awarded today. This piece is a bronze specimen from the collection of the designer, Allan Gairdner Wyon.
