Description

University College London was founded in 1827 amid controversy due to its philanthropic principles that promised to open university education to those of all walks of life; satirical poems forecasting dustmen defeating bishops in theological debates that were written out of this furore can quickly be found on the Internet. One hundred years later the College, now one of the more respected parts of the University of London, celebrated its centenary, and for it Allan Wyon designed this commemorative medal, of which this is a bronze specimen from his workshop.
