Description

Forward angled, single edged steel blade with a thick, flat back and a ricasso decorated with three inlaid copper alloy (brass) bands, and rows of stamped floral ornament at the back edge and on the ricasso. The original wooden hilt is long and thin, with a round section at the completely covered by an iron ferrule with three moulded iron reinforcing bands, groups of double incised lines and a crenelated rear edge. The remainder of the hilt is faceted, and cut away at the underside leaving the pommel section proud to form a grip, and inlaid with a copper alloy (brass) sun at either side of the pommel
