Pottery: Unknown
Bowl with boys among lotus design. Stoneware, thrown, moulded and celadon-glazed. This conical bowl has six indentations in the rim, suggesting a flower-like shape. The footring is low, the outside is plain, and the inside is finely moulded in shallow relief with a chrysanthemum flower-head in the centre and three boys playing among scrolling lotus round the sides. The pale bluish-green jade-like glaze is evenly applied, with a subtle gloss and no crackle. The base shows three neat quartzite spur-marks.

The inspiration for this type of bowl may have come from examples of Ding ware, made in the Northern Song dynasty. The precise shape and clear glaze of this bowl suggest that it was made at the peak of celadon manufacture, in the first half of the twelfth century, at Sadang-ri.
