Hard-paste 'Blanc-de-chine'porcelain, moulded, and glazed. A Chinese man kneels, sitting back on his heels, and smoking an opium pipe which he holds in both hands. His hair is drawn back smoothly from his forehead and hangs down his back in a long pigtail. He wears a long robe with a standing circular collar, and wide sleeve ends with tassels on the lower edge.

Arno Malinowski worked at the factory from 1921 to 1935, and was responsible for some of its finest modern figures. ‘Blanc-de-chine’ was introduced at the factory in 1928.
