Pottery: Unknown (Probably)
Bowl with flower scrolls. Stoneware, thrown, inlaid in black and white slip and celadon-glazed. This bowl with wide mouth, conical sides and small foot is decorated both inside and out in the inlay technique. In the centre inside is a single chrysanthemum floret, the sides are covered with an overall flower scroll (posang tangch'o), enclosed by a classic-scroll border at the rim, all inlaid in white slip; the main design is carried out in the reverse inlay technique where the background is carved away and filled in with white slip while the actual design is celadon-coloured, and is emphasised by incised lines. The outside is inlaid with two white lines around the rim and four chrysanthemum sprays in black and white slip. The pale bluish-green jade-like glaze is evenly applied, glossy and somewhat crackled. The body is thin, and the piece was fired on three quartzite spurs.

This tea bowl is very similar in its shape and design to a celadon bowl excavated from the tomb of Mun Kongyu who died in 1159 and whose tomb is dated by an epitaph. If this early date can be accepted, it is of great importance as an example for the pieces produced around that time, probably at the Yuch'on-ri kilns.
