Description

Silver; the oval bowl is attached by the prongs of a fork to an octagonal handle with finial in the form of a man

Silver; the spoon's oval bowl is attached by five loops on its back to a three-pronged fork. The base of the fork's hexagonal handle is hinged and the folding mechanism held in place by a slide with knop on the side. The finial, in the form of a man in pantaloons, unscrews to reveal a toothpick. The back of the bowl is engraved with a coat of arms, and initialled 'PK'.

Note

This combined spoon and fork was accessioned as 18th century, but it has been suggested that it is a late 19th or early 20th century copy, and not an 17th century original from the United Provinces of the Netherlands as its marks suggest.
