Description

Wine bottle with scroll work. Stoneware, thrown, brushed with white slip, incised, painted in iron-oxide and punch'ong-glazed. The bottle has a flared mouth with rolled (restored) rim, a wide pear-shaped body and a low foot. Except for the lower part, the surface is brushed overall with white slip. Three lines are incised around neck, shoulder and the widest part of the body. A scrollwork design is painted with swift broad brush strokes in rich brown iron-oxide. The clay body has a greenish-grey, the glaze a bluish-grey colour, and sand from the floor of the kiln adheres to the footring.
