Description

Carriage clock and case, eight day movement, with striking repeat and alarm.

Dial: Dial of white enamel with black markings, with roman numerals for the hours and no minute numbering. Below the VI is an alarm setting dial with arabic numerals and dots for the half hours. Inscribed; ‘LEROY & FILS / PALAIS ROYAL 13-15' below XII and `211 REGENT STREET / LONDON' above VI. With moon pattern time hands and a dagger design alarm hand.

Movement: 8 day movement, striking the hours on a gong and providing an alarm on a second smaller gong. The back plate stamped ‘905' at bottom left-hand corner, the set hands square ‘Aiguilles', the alarm winding square ‘Reveill' and the alarm setting square ‘Aigle Reveill'. The left-hand edge of the back plate stamped `8516 Leroy & Fils Palais Royal 13-15 Paris'.

The going train with original platform lever escape¬ment with bi-metallic compensation balance. The striking train originally repeated hours and quar¬ters on the two gongs, but now modified to repeat hours only, by pressing a button on the top of the case.

Case: Of gorge pattern in gilt brass, stamped ‘905' on bottom edge and ‘32' on inside rear door. Height 5 inches excluding handle and 6 5/16 inches including raised handle. Complete with origi¬nal black leather travelling case with glass window and sliding shut¬ter. The case lined with dark puce velvet and silk, with the maker's name and address in gold lettering.
