Description

Carriage clock with 8 day movement.

Dial: Dial of white enamel with roman hour numeralsand divisions in black, arabic five minute numbers in blue and gilt half hour marks. Inscribed ‘Klaftenberger/157 Regent Street' below XII and `& Paris' above VI. Below main dial is an alarm set¬ting dial with arabic hour numerals and dots for half hours, all in black. Blued steel spade pattern hands. Gilt brass masking plate covered with scrolled foliate engraving with circular apertures for the two dials.

Movement: 8 day movement, striking the hours and quarters on two gongs, either grande or petite sonnerie as required and with an alarm sounded on the smaller gong. The back plate stamped ‘H J' separated by a parrot, the trade mark of Henri Jacot and ‘2742', both on the left hand side, the set hands square marked `Hands' with an arrow, the alarm winding square marked ‘Alarm' and the alarm setting square marked ‘AlmHand' with an arrow.
The going train with original platform lever escape¬ment with bi-metallic compensation balance. The striking train arranged for grande or petite sonnerie striking under the control of a lever under the base with settings marked: ‘Full Striking/Silent/Quarters Only'. The movement also providing repeating of hours and quarters on the two gongs by pressing a button on the top of the case. Original winding key.

Case: Gorge pattern case in gilt brass covered with scrolled foliate engraving. Complete with original red leather carrying case lined with purple velvet.
