Method of acquisition: Given (1959) by Clarke, Louis Colville Gray
The fourth state of the plate (and second of the 'Louis states'). The area of the plate where the horseman's head should be is burnished out and Louis's features, which were added in drypoint in the previous state, are now quite faint. In later states the portrait changed to Cromwell, Charles I, then back to Cromwell.
