Note

Title-page to 'The Song Book, words and Tunes from the best poets and musicians', selected and arranged by John Pyke Hullah for the Golden Treasury series (1866). On chine collé. The designer is a relative of the author, John Pyke Hullah. She is either his wife, who was called Caroline - but she died in 1863 - or, more likely, his daughter, also called Caroline, who was born in 1840 and died in 1909. She became an actress, and her married name seems to be Ewell.
