Description

Earthenware coated in a white slip carved and incised under a green glaze

Red brown earthenware, probably wheel thrown, coated in a white slip carved and incised under a green glaze.
Shape: biconical bowl with in-turned neck and rim sits on a disc base
Interior: coated in a white slip, incised on the neck with a stylised pseudo calligraphic band. On the body birds of varying size are carved against a background of scrolling palmettes and half palmettes. The glaze pools in one area of the lower body and scar marks indicate impurities in the clay.
Exterior: on the neck wavey lines are incised through white slip and covered with a green glaze which runs over the carination onto the upper body.
