Description

Backplate for light field use, decorated with bands in the 'black and white' fashion. Formed in one piece, with a flange at the waist. Its arm-openings, its broad, shallow neck-opening and its waist-flange have plain inward turns. Attached by a pair of round-headed rivets at the right shoulder is a modern shoulder-strap. Attached by a single round-headed rivet with a circular internal washer at the left shoulder is a fragment of a modern shoulder-strap. Attached by a pair of round-headed rivets at each side of the waist is a modern leather strap forming a waist-belt. The right strap terminates in a modern single-ended, tongued, iron buckle with a roller. Part of the composite half-armour HEN.M.2A-E-1933

Note

The backplate is decorated with raised bands and borders against a blackened ground in the 'black and white' fashion. The borders at the neck and arm-opening bulge inwards between the vertical bands.

The bright bands of the backplate show a light to medium patination. The intervening blackened areas are worn through to bright metal at some points. The metal shows extensive delamination.
