Description

Pair of tassets for field use, with later etched and gilt decoration. Each formed of nine upward-overlapping lames of which the first and last are longer than the rest. The tasset is in each case of trapezoidal form, widening towards its lower end. It has a concave inner edge and a straight lower edge with rounded corners. The lames are connected to one another by modern brass-capped, round-headed, sliding-rivets at their outer ends and by modern internal leathers at their centres. The top lame is fitted with three modern, double-ended, tongued iron suspension-buckles. The lower edge of each tasset has a file-roped inward turn bordered by a raised rib, while its lateral edges have plain inward partial turns.
The main and subsidiary edges of each tasset are decorated with bands of alternating scrolling foliage on a gilt ground. The decoration is a modern addition. Part of the portion of half armour HEN.M.7A-C-1933

Note

North Italian

The backplate is bright with a medium patination overall. Its etched ornament is extensively worn throughout. The interior of the backplate shows fairly extensive deposits of solder at its top centre.

The lateral edges of the tassets show some reworking, suggesting that they did not originally form a pair. Support for this view is provided by differences in the character of the roping of their lower edges. Both tassets show some internal patches, mainly at their articulation-points.

The tassets are bright with a light to medium patination overall.
