Comb morion

Description

Comb morion, for infantry use, with a 'black from the hammer' finish. Formed in one piece with a rounded crown that rises to a high, roped medial comb that extends from just above the brow to just above the nape, and a narrow integral brim that is turned down at each side and projects to a point at the front and the rear. The point at the front is cracked, and the point at the rear is pierced with a later wiring-hole. The edge of the brim has a file-roped inward turn. The base of the crown is encircled by twelve round-headed lining-rivets fitted with large iron rosette washers externally, and octagonal internal washers internally. Two at the right side retain fragments of leather, possibly for the attachment of the missing cheek-pieces at that side. The right side of the crown shows a dent towards the front end of the base of the comb.
