Description

A watercolour drawing from the album 4168. This image depicts a Qing court lady seated in an ornate chair in an elegant interior setting. The figure wears a court robe in blue and yellow with elaborate dragon and cloud motifs, indicating her high status. Her outfit features intricate embroidery and decorative elements, and she wears a black hat with red trim and accessories. The lady sits in an intricately carved wooden chair with orange tapestry and curved armrests, positioned on an ornate platform. Beside her is a tall stone table with blue displaying shelf. On the shelf are a bronze incense burner and a red vase with plants. The painting is executed in the style typical of Chinese export art from around the late 18th or early 19th century, with careful attention to details in the clothing, furniture, and decorative objects. The style combines Chinese painting techniques with elements designed to appeal to Western tastes, particularly in the detailed rendering of the figure's sumptuous costume and the well-appointed interior setting. Previously described as "Manchu official".
