Note

Smoothbore firearms are not very accurate as a spherical ball does not fly straight and wanders off in flight. More accurate firearms use projectiles that are cylindrical in shape and are given a spin by spiral grooves cut into the barrel of the gun called rifling. These were expensive to make and were often used for hunting weapons where cost was less important and accuracy paramount.
