Description

Cotton or linen, embroidered in polychrome silk, gilt and silver threads in double darning, double running, eyelet hole, open hem stitch, needle weaving, overcast and satin stitch. At each end three bands of embroidery -
(a) needleweaving border in gilt thread; (b) includes the insciption "O beloved king, I have seen in your beauty four things clearly: one was the rose, one the hyacinth, one the narcissus, one the sweet basil: these four. With these associated, my son, remember four things: one regret; one separation; one absence; one parting"; (c) three sprays 5.5" deep of stylised tulips and hyacinth flowers.
