Description

Polychromed wood, with glass eyes and tears, and hair eye lashes

Smaller than life-size bust of wood, carved in several sections, and polychromed over a white ground, with inlaid glass eyes, hair upper lashes, and three applied tears. The sorrowing Virgin faces front. Her lips are slightly parted and she looks upwards slightly. A tear rolls down each of her cheeks and another has fallen onto the base of her neck. She wears a dull pale yellow dress and over her head has a dark blue cloak over another layer of fabric of a darker shade of yellow than her dress. The bust is attached to a shallow rectangular blackened wood plinth.
