A case for carrying a book.
The box is made from cuir bouilli (boiled leather) covered wood, which has embossed foliage on the lid, and the word "Maria" repeated twice on the sides and a leaf design incised. The inside of the box is lined with red leather. The box is bound with iron bands and has an iron clasp and lock plate
