Description

Verge alarm coach watch with pull quarter repeat, in shagreen case with silver frame. With fake signature.

MOVEMENT: Full plate movement engraved 'Tho: Tompion. London'. Balance cock table engraved and crossed out in 4, winged head engraved at neck. Ruby end stone in brass setting, foot engraved. Steel balance. Engraved slide plate, regulation from front. Blued steel alarm stop work, two turns. No gilding. Large solid fusee iron post shaped as lyre. Potance riveted to plate. Counter-potance rectangular, engraved on sides, turned stem. Alarm and repeating barrels engraved and screwed to top plate. Alarm potance, rectangular with sides engraved. Alarm counter-potance rectangular, engraved on sides, stem turned. Pillar plate, not gilt, with four turned baluster pillars. Fusee and chain, barrel with one lip, tangent set-up under barrel. Verge escapement. Train planted radially. Runners with four pinions governed by depthing pinion. Runners planted anti-clockwise. Alarm train with two pinions, verge, double ended hammer between plates. Alarm train planted anti-clockwise.

REPEATING MECHANISM: Pull 1/4 repeating.

BRASS EDGE: Brass, not gilt, four long plain turned feet. Engraved border of acanthus leaves with four holes for screws, to fix movement to the case.

DIAL: Silver, radial Arabic 5 minute figures. 'THO: TOMPION LONDON FACIT' engraved between figures 40 to 20. Ladder minute ring, radial Roman chapters, ladder half-hour ring. Sunk alarm dial, silver, radial Arabic hours, ladder quarter-hour ring. Sunk regulation dial, silver, above XII o'clock. Set alarm socket at 6.15. Winding square at 1.45. Alarm winding square at 7.15.

HANDS: Blued steel beetle and poker.

BELL: Straight sides.

CASE: Silver and brass covered in shagreen. Body with raised ring, having a ring of 20 ringed round holes in side, and ridge inside the end to take the movement. Back of body covered in black shagreen with outer ring of silver pins and centre silver circle pierced. Scratched on opening '3920 Ws/s/-'. Bezel, silver ends with brass covered in black shagreen between, with ring of twenty-six silver rimmed round holes and ring of silver pins outside. Inside of body and bezel dimpled by forming. Cylindrical pendant with silver bow.
