Method of acquisition: Bequeathed (1912) by Marlay, Charles Brinsley

Note

Laid on card with the edges folded over the back and blackened 'margins', in a contemporary presentation for a 'Vue d'Optique' device. The composition has been extended at the right and left, as well as altered, with the view through the arches cut out and replaced by sections from another print. Figure of a soldier from another print stuck on the right. Title and publication line in French, 'Aux Depenses du Negoce de l'Academie Imperiale d'Augsbourg avec Privilège de S. M. Imperiale et Defense ni de faire, ni de vendre les Coppies'. Title in French in reverse above the image only just visible through darkened margins.
